The Wedding Industry & Losing TikTok

Image of a protest sign in front of the US Capitol that reads: "Keep TikTok"

So it looks like we, meaning the wedding industry, along with all of America, will, after all, be losing TikTok and that the ban will be in effect January19th (though according to CNN, some things are still uncertain).

As a small business owner who has a great following on TikTok and who finds around 70% of my clients through the platform, I am decidedly unhappy about this! I could get really political right now about the folly of this ban (especially when Meta is out here doing whatever they want with our data), but I'll leave it at that and just say: we will have to pivot!

For nearlyweds who search for their vendors on TikTok, look for new avenues to search. I always say that the best way to search is through recommendation, so start with who you know! If you can afford a planner, absolutely start with them. Or ask your venue (but make sure their preferred vendors aren't paying to be on their list. And you'll have to expand your social media choices (even though no app is as dynamic nor has as adept of an algorithm as TikTok for sobbing out loud).

For those of us vendors who need to get our names out there in new ways, where are you all going? This blog is my first step into finding other ways to get my voice and advice out there. Where else? Should I go to YouTube? Bluesky? The moon? I kid, but really tho.

As maddening as this all is, and it really really really is, weddings were here long before TikTok and will be here long after. We will just have to pivot! What choice do we have?
