Does Spring inspire you to plan your wedding? With the beautiful greenery of the Pacific Northwest, it's easy to envision the perfect locale for your special event, and few places fit that lush natural glamor like Leach Botanical Garden, which I toured not too long ago. Come with me as I explain what makes this space such a wonderful option for your wedding venue!
To start with some amazing news, Leach Botanical Garden, which is so much more than simply a wedding venue, typically stays afloat through a city budget, garden visits and memberships, and a lot of generous donations, and this year had their alarm bells going off. Thankfully, I can confirm that they've secured funding through the end of December 2026, so we have at least until the end of the year to make your dream wedding happen.
One of the coolest parts of the space is its history, particularly in the love story between John and Lilla Leach, of which the gardens are named. The two were Portland quirky, through and through, with Lilla being a botanist who discovered a number of previously unknown plants including the Kalmiopsis leachiana. It would make sense that their property would one day become a lush garden that we could all enjoy.

Part of the charm of the garden is that it really is more than just a contained wedding venue and event space. There are trails, historical buildings and sites, obviously gardens, and a lot to keep you occupied in between the actual wedding planning. In fact, one of the perks to planning your event at Leach Botanical Garden is that you and a guest can tour the grounds for free any time up until the date of your event, which is excellent for your mental state. Take some time to sit and ponder in the quiet loveliness of the trails, and I can't stress enough how great nature can be to unstress so much of the process!
OK, so there are a few different locales within the garden to choose to hold your ceremony or reception, with the Manor House, the East Terrace, and the Upper Garden Covered Arbor being the three most likely spots you'll pick from depending on the size and needs of your wedding. In general, you can accommodate as many as 100 guests when going for the full-scale wedding or shrink things down to a smaller 25 for an elopement.
Some of the options the gardens have available in 2026 include ceremony & receptions, private celebration receptions, micro-weddings, ceremony only, elopements, and proposals, and keep in mind that I'm a preferred vendor and so do provide a discount for weddings at Leach Botanical Garden!

Something to consider as well is that the garden itself has such natural beauty that you won't need to add much decor to make it special. Decorations are of course allowed, with some definite restrictions to avoid harming the wildlife and ecosystem of the area, but you'll likely discover that the space doesn't need much more, saving you time and money. You've got enough on your mind anyway, let nature do the heavy lifting in the decor department.
I can't help but gush about Leach Botanical Garden every chance I get, it's one of my favorite event spaces and places to work. If you're looking to plan your wedding, I'd love to walk you through it, and by "it" I mean the gardens, my word are they pretty. Let's make your special time truly special!
